The "ing's" of Wait-ing

As I check into all the things I've been praying for, for days, months, years... another day seem to be passing by and I'm still - waiting. Another one of those seasons where everyday is a waiting game.  Everyday I pray. Everyday I argue with God, like Elijah and Habakkuk. Everyday, I must admit, I end up having to recognize that God is to be "exalted in the earth" (Psalm 46:10b).

If you are a Christian, you know that waiting seasons are as common as traffic lights in a suburban area. And I'm sure you've probably read half a dozen articles on what to do while waiting on God. So, I'll spare you. Besides, I started by mentioning them; I'm doing them and I'm not here to tell you to these things. I'm not here to tell you that it'll get better with this or that "magic treat". I'm here to tell you -I get you!

I call them the "ing's" of wait-ing. English is a funny language but it works here. We know that, as Christians, particularly, waiting is not just sitting and staring at the wall while the answer comes. Is not even going about our lives like nothing is happening... Have you noticed how many "ing's" are in just that false perception? Reality is that do-ing, is what we're called to do. Ok, enough of that, you already knew that.

How exhausting are they? A lot! Specially while waiting.

Pray-ing.

Serv-ing.

Prais-ing.

Cry-ing. (some of you know what I'm talking about)

It is a constant do-ing, while also maintain-ing our hopes up that God will do it, at any moment.

I get you! But you know what's more encouraging? The Giants of the faith could also say the same thing.

Look at David, for example, some of his Psalms convey the frustrations with the "ing's" of waiting we also experience.

Read Psalm 13, 25, 27... to mention a few. You should read them all, really. It is fascinating how the Psalmists, not just David, found themselves waiting in desperation for God to act. Prayed, argued sometimes, but more importantly, always praised God for what He had done and was going to do.

But... what if God finally answers and the He says, "No"?

There's been times, too many, where that's been me. And I have a feeling I'm in that season again, the "nos'" are coming. I like what the vocalist of the band 'Mercy Me' wrote/sings, "God when you choose to leave mountains unmovable, give me the strength to be able to sing, it is well with me soul...". hmm,,

If this is you.. wait-ing... I get you. The Giants of the faith would get us. "And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you." (1 Peter 5:10)

What is it that you're waiting for and how heavy are your "ing's"?
