The Time I Didn't Settle For...

Last October I went to visit my sister in Delaware. That morning I was fasting and, the plan was to end the fast at lunch time with Chick-Fil-A. It is the East, there are Chick-Fil-A's almost in every corner, getting what I wanted at lunch was going to be easy.

Around 10:45am I thought I should start paying attention to the signs and find the Chick-Fil-A. Sometime after 11am, I was really hungry, a little anxious, because I couldn't find a Chick-Fil-A. Noon came, and was almost gone, and still no Chick-Fil-A.

At that point I was hungry, angry, anxious and annoyed. One o'clock came and I was starting to wonder if I should give up and settle for gas station food. But, I was determined to have Chick-Fil-A. My heart was set on Chick-Fil-A. So, I kept driving. I have taken that route several times before, I have seen a lot of Chick-Fil-A's.. Why couldn't I find one??

Suddenly, I felt God telling me, "Maria, if only you had this determination on everything in your life.. you would be complaining a lot less and understand me a lot better".

You see, there are areas of my life where, though I know very well what I want, I get very impatient and argue with God a lot about not getting it. What is worse, there have been times when I have began to think I should settle for less than what I want. I have, actually, tried to settle for less -but it never ends well.

That moment was very convicting. I was certain I wanted Chick-Fil-A, and I was willing to go hungry for hours just to get it. It was just food, why am I not able to do the same with other -more important- areas?

Here's what happens with the Chick-Fil-A. After realizing that God was just trying to tell me something, less than a mile later I found one. What's more important, because it was past lunch time, I went in and out in a breeze. My food was still delicious and I didn't had to wait.

Life is just like that. God may make us wait longer than we want to and, though it is not pleasant, it is perfect. While some get what they want fast, and then struggle all the way to the end, some have to wait and have less issues once they get their heart desires.

So, whether it is a partner, a dream job, getting into a renown school, or whatever it is that you want, if you just wait for God's timing and do not settle, you will get it and it will be great. Now, I must say, we won't ALWAYS get what we want. Sometimes, what we want is not good for us, but if we trust in God and align our life to His plan, then He is faithful and He will change our desires.
